Coronado Island & San Diego, CA

Well, Christmas 2012 has come and gone. Winter break is wearing on...
There are lots of good things about Minnesota.
The depths of Winter just happens not to be one of them.
Ya know what else stinks about Minnesota?
There is no In n' Out Burger...
...and there is NO TIM!
NIM!
As always, our number one priority upon landing in Cali is a Double Double
and it wasn't hard to convince the troops...
...but first, just like a scene out of a rom-com, they spot each other from across a crowded parking lot and run into each others arms. It's only been a couple months....
Tim is the meat in the Love Sandwich and it will stay this way for the entire weekend, as these two birds have no concept of personal space...
Tim is a bridge...
 Tim is a chair...
It got late fast, so a full moonlit stroll about the harbor...
Fa la la la and all that...
Moo Town...
Ice Cream is dinner...
Guess that's better than an ol' punch in the crotch...
Day 2:
A nice fresh start
Navel Airman Tim gets special permission to take us on tour of the base...
1st stop. Navy Base Starbucks. Saturday. It's closed.
Check out the big ship...
Check out Tim. Tim is monkey bars...
That's a mighty big ship.
These buildings are called the Dolly Partons...
Anchors away...
Where have all the Seaman gone???
 This is Tim's Squadron...
Tim is my cousin, my Godson.
We think he is the cooolest...
...and not JUST because he gets to show us awesome air crafts..

...and missiles and cannons and stuff..
This is Tim's dorm. We never got to see inside.
His roommate was always "sleeping".
Tim's favorite food is ribs. San Diego's favorite ribs are Phil's...
Phil's was good. Phil's was alright.
We beat the rush that can be a line wrapped around the building...
...but it was no Ted Cook's. RIGHT, Axel!?!
Too cold and rainy for Mission Beach...
...instead of sun and sand there is video games, laser tag...
 ...bumper cars...
 ...and rides...
Ok. Who wants to eat?
Tim orders a jucy lucy at the House of Blues.
Why is the cheese on the outside???
Day 3:
Surf's up and so are we. Earlier than the usual with the time change.
We will let Tim sleep before the boy storm hits.
We like to watch the surfers. Lucky wants to hang ten.
Hmmm... Maybe not today...
Baby, it's cold outside...
AND, Tim is awake!
Bags and bags of...
A carne asada burrito as big as your head...
Taco time!
Guess which one is the loudest?
How about, can you tie his mouth shut?
USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum
Tim gets in for free.
Ejection seat!
Da-Bas! Da-Bas!
(Axel's gun shooting sound effects)
 Awkward family photo...
Fighter Pilots...
Lucky's favorite jet...
Me and Axel play China Beach in the medical chopper.
I get to be Dana Delaney!
Can't remember what it's called, but this is the kind of bird that Tim works on...
That's pretty fly...
Why do I always have to be that guy?
USS Midway is the longest serving Navy Aircraft Carrier of the 20th Century.
Tim will most likely be working on one like this after he sets sail to Japan.
We were accosted with a memorable green screen shot upon entry after being stuck in the cold rain. I got myself in a bit of trouble snapping a photo of the computer screen. What a beauty...
I didn't have to serve time in the brig and the boys still got their wings...
Mike raced us to a downtown sports bar after the ship to catch the tail end of the Viking/Packers playoff game. I guess we won. Then later we lost...
Later when asked, Lucky's response to what his favorite activity with Tim was, "Talking"...
No doubt, Axel's was eating...
Next we go on to check into our new digs.
The famous Hotel Del Coronado
We set out to explore the grounds of this massive...

...historic and haunted hotel.
No ghosts in the dusty old elevator shaft...
Just a big pimp here...
Stairwells all clear?
Ahhhh! Spooky ghosts in the hallway...
SLUMBER PARTY!
Wreak-it Ralph and look, Tim is a trampoline...
Day 4:
Finally, Wake up to clear and sunny skies.
Nothing left to do but play on the beach...
This would be Tim's 1 3/4 time stepping into the ocean...
Lucky was more interested in construction.
New Years Eve Day 2012
Coronado Beach, California
Make a Wish...
Sarah eats Sea Salt caramel by the Sea Shore...
Who's hungry?
Pizza!
Meanwhile, back at the hotel...
...they have an ocean side ice skating rink...
...but there is still business to be done in the sand. They bought Army guys...
...and a Mentos bomb, which turned out to be a total failure.
Guess you need a full 2 liter...
Mike tried to capture a photo of me (in his words) "on vacation without any kids". This is how it turned out. Guess he doesn't know how to use the zoom... or a condom. ZING!
Kidding. I am nothing without my lovely darlings...
THIS is how I would look on vacation without any kids...
Merry Christmas, TIM! His package arrived while we were here. Lucky for him, he was spared from opening the princess tin & mommy love letter in front of the other sailors and lucky for us, we got to attack the cookies. THANKS for the green wreaths, Joyce and the peanut butter kisses are Mike's favorite!
They all had to be hid from Axel.
Later there was a sunset and a ship...
...a little piece of snow. Not so much a novelty...
Funny New Year's faces.
 We don't make resolutions.
 Cuz, we're gangsta like that.
AND here it goes...
Lucky & Axel's very first time in ice skates is on the
sunny beaches of southern California.
Tim is somewhat of an amateur himself.
It wasn't all graceful and pretty...
...took some getting used to...
...and by the end, we were all pros!
HAPPY 2013!!!
See you next year.
Goodbyes are hard. Tears are shed....
but, don't worry. We will meet you in Japan, Sailor.
