Maui, Hawaii ~ Part I

          Day 1:
After a 37 minute flight we land in Maui and find our way to a new resort...
Our room is on the whale watching level. Eleven stories up and it's easy to watch all the humpbacks play in the waters below...
That's the old leper colony in the distance, Molokai...
First order of business is the beach...
The waves are much more wicked around these parts, taking Lucky a bit by surprise...
When he was told him he needed to be careful, wear his life jacket and have Mom or Dad with him in the water,
he responds, "Are you kidding me?"
A kid that was leaving handed Lucky his sand buckets and shovels that he couldn't fit in his suitcase.
We took them, even though we had our own that we didn't feel like lugging down...
A couple other nice boys gave up their bag of army guys, because they didn't want to pack them...
"I am sorry I am ruined your world"...
And finally, two other brothers offered him their boogie board that they couldn't take on the plane.
Maui, the land of free stuff.
(Unless they are trying to sell you a tour package or a timeshare.)

Day 2:
We stopped in the small community of Paia, where Lucky told Santa what he wanted for his birthday, before starting our long drive down the Road to Hana...
The Road to Hana is 52 miles from Kahului. Takes about three hours. The road is very winding and narrow and passes over 59 bridges, 46 of which are only one-lane bridges that date back to 1910, requiring oncoming traffic to yield and occasionally causing brief traffic jams if two vehicles meet head-on. There are approximately 620 curves along this stretch of road.
A tropical paradise...
We found a black beach. Made of lava...
...walked through a lava tube...
Lucky threw lava rocks into the bay...
...and scraped his knee all up...
...bad things keep happening since our oldest son, Greg found this strange necklace in the sand...
Stopped for a snack...
...fed some ducks...
...and was on our way...
Day 3:
This day didn't involve much more than a short walk around Lahaina,
...this hula girl...
...that pirate...
...a quick trip to the grocery store, so we don't have to keep paying $38 bucks for a couple bowls of cereal, some bananas and yogurts...
Mike has taken up snorkeling...
Lucky and I took it to the pool, for awhile...
...later, we met up with Gravedigger relaxing in the sun, down by the sea...
...we were worried about the sights he was taking in...
Lucky was a little upset by the heavy waves that knocked him around...
...so we just called it quits for the day...
That's all for now...
These Thai wings with coconut ginger ranch have been rockin' my world.

The boogie board for sure and some of the buckets, he may be attached to the army guys by now, but if I have my way they'll go.

I hope you don't wake up with a tarantula! And Mike doesn't grow an afro.

I love the wholesome wear on the beach. Glad to see folks in Hawaii are proper.

It looks so warm, I'm jealous!

Is there a rainbow in the background of all the pictures Mike is in, or am I just seeing them? Tell Mike to stop staring at the Rainbows because you know what will happen if you stare to long! Wish I was there! Tell the Mister, "It's mine"!

I know what happens when you look at rainbows. It happened to me. I'm a survivor.

I hope Mike does grow an afro. He could also just get a perm. I'd be okay with that too.
