Amarillo, Texas ~ Part 4

The Texas panhandle. Amarillo. This IS TEXAS.

Cowboys...

Beef...

Cowboys and beef...

Amarillo, Texas. Home of THE BIG TEXAN. Eat 72 ounces and it's free.

...they have a big chair...

...and down the street there's a stack of big chairs...

...and more cowboys...
Oh, Give me a home where the Cadillac Roam...
...on the Cadillac Ranch...
Lucky, just doing his part...
...to help out Mother Nature.
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word...
And the skies are not cloudy all day...

An hour west of Amarillo is a little town called Adrian.
This marks the midway point of the historic Route 66.
We pulled over for a slice of pie at the Midpoint Cafe...

...and to our pleasant surprise this turns out to be the cafe that Flo's V8 Cafe and the character Flo was based after in Lucky's favorite movie, Cars. A couple young girls that work the summer here were the inspiration for Mia and Tia, Lightening's biggest fans.
This is Fran. Flo!

She told us with a wink that she wished she had a boyfriend like Ramone.
Well, look who we found sitting out back... RAMONE!
~Low and Slow...
Sally: Forty years ago, that interstate down there didn't exist.
Sally: Yeah. Back then, cars came across the country a whole different way.
Lightning McQueen: How do you mean?
Sally: Well, the road didn't cut through the land like that interstate. It moved with the land, it rose, it fell, it curved. Cars didn't drive on it to make great time. They drove on it to have a great time.
