Wilmington, North Carolina

We cruised through most of North Carolina fairly quickly.

Stopping only for one man, on our way to the southern part of the state, Wilmington.

Our first morning, Lucky seemed a little bored, so we dedicated a full day just to him.

First, a railroad museum that fell a little short. Sort of bland, but they had a nice kids corner where Lucky met another 2 1/2 year old from California that had been traveling for a month. They got a chance to play together for awhile. The highlight for me at least, were the hobos in the box car.

Lucky has recently picked up a new fascination with snakes. No idea where it came from. So, when we saw the Exotic Snake Serpentereum we knew it was the perfect place for him. They house some of the most poisonous and deadly snakes from all over the world. He was so interested, but I didn't even like the snakes looking at my little baby.

When the girl took the snake out for Lucky to touch, he was too nervous and didn't want to get too close. (Fine by me.)

Here is Lucky giving us his best snake impression, afterwards.

We took a nice walk down Cape Fear River.
There is a military base nearby, some of the most beautiful beach houses...
and a big, giant lions head.
Mike and I when out to dinner one night, then sat at Barbary Coast watching drunk people smoke cigarettes and spill drinks. Dennis Hopper's famous character, Frank in Blue Velvet was filmed as a regular at this bar.

We woke up to beautiful, hot and humid 78 degree tropical weather, after an all night long down pour. We walked down to the beach to watch the surfers. Lucky started out throwing sea shell in the ocean and putting his stinky old toes in the salt water.
Then, suddenly he's got himself stripped down to the nude for a little skinny dip.
Our time here was short to make room for the next big stop. The Redneck Riviera.
